The season opener in Melbourne could be at risk of a postponement due to the tightening of Coronavirus restrictions in Australia.

The season opener to the Formula One campaign is due to get under way from the 19th of March till the 21st.

However, the fate 2021 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park is currently in discussion with F1 bosses, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and the Australian Government.

"Discussions between the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, the government and F1 management about the F1 calendar for 2021 are ongoing."

"The government will continue to prioritise public health considerations while protecting our major events calendar," a Victoria spokesman said.

"Further details upon finalisation of arrangements with all parties in the coming weeks". stated the Australian Grand Prix Corporation.

The 2020 Australian Grand Prix was cancelled only hours before the first practice session was due to start, after a member of the McLaren team tested positive.

Several races followed suit last season which reduced the original 22 races to 17 in both Europe and the Middle East.

Therefore, it is a ongoing possibility that there will be no season opener at Albert Park since 2019.
